Welcome to the third issue of Moving Image Artists Journal!
During the early months of this strange year, after the virus had spread around the globe and we had all found ourselves housebound, artist Sapphire Goss reached out to her friends and followers on twitter to see who would be interested in participating in a collaboratively made film.
Taking inspiration from the surrealist technique of exquisite corpse, each contributor, from the confines of their own homes, would see a few seconds of the previous film and continue in their own way. The experiment resulted in two strands, each beginning with Sapphire’s own sequence and unfolding in two different, but not unrelated, directions.
We are delighted to publish here in MIA Journal the two videos alongside short interviews with each of the 23 contributors plus an essay by Sapphire on exquisite corpses and collaborative filmmaking under the spell of covid-19.
Moving Image Artists Journal Issue 3 has been compiled and edited by Daniel & Clara and Sapphire Goss. Cover image from E Sally Johnson’s contribution to ‘Interior: an Exquisite Corpse film’, 2020.
