Calling all moving image artists and experimental filmmakers, we are now taking submissions for the 4th issue of MIA Journal!
We are seeking written articles by artists reflecting on their own work and creative practice.
The articles can take the form of essays, diaries or a collection of notes/reflections, these can offer overviews of a body of work or focus on a single project. We are particularly keen to receive texts that offer personal perspectives, with insights into your own creative process and ways of being an artist in the world today.
The theme of this issue is MOVING IMAGE ARTISTS NOW – our intention is to publish a selection of articles that paint a picture of artists working with moving image today. As always our focus is on your creativity, imagination, processes and artistic concerns. We are open to articles about all forms of moving image art, whether it is experimental film, installation, video art, VR, web based work, expanded cinema or anything else in between and beyond!
Articles can be any length but we anticipate somewhere between 1000-3000 words as a good length.
We would recommend having a look through our website to get a sense of the various approaches we have previously published: https://movingimageartists.co.uk
There will always be exceptions to any of the above so if in doubt please submit.
DEADLINE: 1st February 2022
PAY: We will pay £150 for each article selected for publication
HOW TO SUBMIT: Please send finished articles + minimum of 3 high res images to: email@example.com
We can only accept finished texts which are publication ready, please do not submit work-in-progress or pitches.
We are primarily looking for new articles that have not previously been published, but will consider works that have been recently published in print. Priority will be given to articles not already available online.
This open call is for articles only – we are not currently accepting film submissions.
We will be selecting 10 articles for publication, selection decisions will be communicated by the end of February 2022.
Unfortunately we are unable to offer feedback on submissions.
MIA Journal Issue 4 is being published as part of MIA NOW, a project kindly supported by Arts Council England.
